What Is One Special Thing About the Place You Grew Up?

The Aloha Spirit – Aloha is more than a word of greeting or farewell or a salutation. Aloha is the Hawaiian word for love, affection, peace, compassion, and mercy.

I worked in the restaurant business making local Hawaiian delicacies like poke, spam sushi, haupia, and lomi salmon.

Hobbies:

Softball, fly-fishing, golf, snowboarding, and craft beer.

Describe Yourself In 5 Words:

Efficient, Loyal, Innovative, Authentic, and Precise.

Favorite Colorado Past-time:

Snowboarding on a blue-sky powder day!

Favorite Place to Grab a Drink:

Any Local Brewery

One Unusual Thing About You:

In my early college years, I was an Introvert = Engineer, when I graduated I became an extrovert = sales relationships. Two different traits that I feel have strengthened my Realtor career.

In What Ways Are You Involved in Your Community?

I’ve grown into the Stapleton Community not just through real estate, but now my kids are in school. I’ve spearheaded a shoe drive, in the neighborhood, sponsored softball teams, and navigating my way into the PTA.

Who Inspires You?

My wife and two boys. I want to be present in the moment while building a legacy, so they can have every opportunity to be happy and healthy as they grow into kids and young adults.

What Is Your Proudest Accomplishment and Why?

I’ve reached some goals in my life and business, but I think my proudest accomplishments are still to come, my boys are so young and I want to support and raise them to watch them accomplish their goals.

How Do You Define Success?

Living a comfortable life with no financial stresses and plenty of time for family. Being equipped with tools and finances to make choices that allow growth, and never saying money or work is an excuse to not living or experiencing life.

What Career Path Would You Have Chosen If You Didn’t Become a Real Estate Broker?

My previous career path as a Civil Engineer had a purposeful impact building Denver’s infrastructure, stadiums, airports, highways, and trains. But my real estate career has built more personal relationships which are much more rewarding.

If You Could Master Any Skill That You Don’t Currently Have, What Would It Be and Why?

My golf swing. I could enjoy all the beautiful golf courses from Hawaii to Colorado. I could be present and develop stronger relationships with my foursome. Maybe if I mastered my swing I could win some wagers for beer!

What Is the Most Adventurous Thing You’ve Ever Done?

Traveled the world – Asia and Europe with no reservations, a plane ticket, and a desire for adventure.

If You Could Have Dinner with Anyone, Who Would It Be and Why?

Barack Obama – I would love to learn about all the barriers he overcame to become President.  His early years in Hawaii, to college on the east coast, meeting his Michelle, his career, and two kids. Denver primary (rock star party scene) Not really interested in any of the politics.

What Is Your Favorite Family Tradition?

Currently it is a group, we do a winter extravaganza. It starts with Thanksgiving, Hannukah, Christmas, my first son’s birthday and then my second son’s birthday on Jan 11th. Presents everywhere and ethnic food to feed everyone.

What’s the Best Concert You’ve Ever Been To? What Made It So Special?

Jack Johnson at Red Rocks. Combining the two places I call home in one summer evening. The tailgating was perfect with Colorado beers and friends jamming on the ukulele. Live music, singing all the lyrics and clear starry night. A bonus was there were no crying babies, it was out first date night after new born!

If You Could Live in A Book, TV Show, Or Movie What Would It Be and Why?

Fixer Upper but with a landlord twist. I like to work with my hands. I’ve been fixing things or attempting to make them more efficient all my life. The design ideas in the show are amazing and I would love to apply this to my rental/landlord portfolio. Hoping to grow to 10 doors in 5 years to help with the residual income.

Hometown:

I claim Grass Valley, California since it sometimes shows up on a map but it’s actually a little community about 20 minutes away called Lake Wildwood. I grew up all over the world with a Dad who worked for the Air Force but ended up in California.

What Is One Special Thing About the Place You Grew Up?

There are so many, but I would say just the simplicity of a small town.

What Was Your First Job?

Working at a little sandwich shop called June’s Deli. I still visit her when I’m home.

Hobbies:

Cooking, sewing, photography, and card making.

Describe Yourself In 5 Words:

Caring, Strong-willed, Honest, Creative, Driven

Favorite Colorado Past-time:

Anything with my family…hiking, camping, BBQing.

Favorite Place to Grab a Drink:

Smokin’ Fins in Downtown Littleton. Great food and drinks!

In What Ways Are You Involved in Your Community?

I’m heavily involved in my kids’ schools and support several animal charities.

Who Inspires You?

A good friend and past colleague of mine, Courtney O’Neill. She is such a free spirit and follows her heart no matter how hard it is. She’s not afraid of the road less traveled. She’s one of the kindest, most down to earth people I know.

What Is Your Proudest Accomplishment and Why?

My kids. They are such loving, kind, smart people. They make the world a better place and give me hope for the future.

How Do You Define Success?

Happiness. Money and status don’t mean anything without stopping to enjoy life.

What Career Path Would You Have Chosen If You Didn’t Become a Real Estate Broker?

Marketing. It is still a huge part of what I do in real estate and what got me here.

If You Could Master Any Skill That You Don’t Currently Have, What Would It Be and Why?

Speaking another language. I spent time growing up in Germany where all the other kids spoke multiple languages from a young age. I just think it’s such a versatile skill and allows you to communicate and understand more of the world.

What Is the Most Adventurous Thing You’ve Ever Done?

I’m not a very adventurous person…I would probably say in college when I used to do spontaneous road trips in the middle of the night. My mom used to get the midnight call of, “Hey Mom, just to let you know we’re headed to Vegas (or wherever it was). Call you when we get there!”

What Is Your Favorite Family Tradition?

Mornings at our family cabin in the Sierras. The cabin has no electricity and is heated by wood stoves. My Grandpa would get up early and start breakfast. The kitchen stove pipe ran through the loft where my sister and I slept.  We would carefully touch the pipe in the morning without getting out of our sleeping bags to see how hot it was to determine if it was time to get up. My Grandpa would make “hotcakes” and hot chocolate mixed with coffee for us. Still my favorite place in the world.

What’s the Best Concert You’ve Ever Been To? What Made It So Special?

Randy Rogers Band at the Grizzly Rose a couple years ago. My husband surprised me with tickets for my birthday. It’s one of our favorite bands and we don’t have many date nights so the combination of all those factors were amazing!

If You Could Live in A Book, TV Show, Or Movie What Would It Be and Why?

Heartland on Netflix. Living on a ranch and working with horses all day? My dream life!

One Unusual Thing About You:

In What Ways Are You Involved in Your Community?

I am on the board of a local charity that helps single parents keep their homes in safe living condition (www.BeTheGift.com). My daughter and I also bake cookies and distribute them at the homeless day shelter near our house.

Who Inspires You?

I like to gain bits of inspiration from many people around me. My mother and grandmother inspired me to be a strong independent woman.  My dad inspired me to create a strong financial future for myself. My daughter inspires me to be tenacious and never give up. I am inspired by those that aren’t afraid to stand up for what they believe in. I am inspired by strangers showing kindness.

What Is Your Proudest Accomplishment and Why?

The number of times that I have been able to turn lemons into lemonade.

How Do You Define Success?

Being able to have time to do the things that I love without sacrificing work. And the ability to have work be on the list of the things I love!

What Career Path Would You Have Chosen If You Didn’t Become a Real Estate Broker?

I always wanted to be a high school math teacher!

If You Could Master Any Skill That You Don’t Currently Have, What Would It Be and Why?

Sewing. I have friends and family that are excellent at designing and making amazing creations and this is something that I’ve always wanted to do! Oh, and to save some money on alterations and be able to do them at home would be amazing!

What Is the Most Adventurous Thing You’ve Ever Done?

Paragliding in California three years ago – what a rush!!

If You Could Have Dinner with Anyone, Who Would It Be and Why?

My grandfather. Though we had dinner together every week, I didn’t know that our last one was going to be the last one. I want a do-over.

What Is Your Favorite Family Tradition?

Many years ago I received quite an unattractive hat as a gift. It was hysterical and became an ongoing joke between my sister and I. Ever since then, we add embellishments to it, wrap it and re-gift it to each other when we least expect it. Most recently, I brought it on a family vacation and had it delivered to her room.

What’s the Best Concert You’ve Ever Been To? What Made It So Special?

Though not necessarily a favorite band, Blues Traveler at Red Rocks on 4th of July back in 1997 was the best! My mother and I decided that day that we should go, drove up on a whim, scalped tickets and soaked up all that is Red Rocks! We could see so many firework displays on the horizon. It was amazing! Musically, probably Jethro Tull, also at Red Rocks!

If You Could Live in A Book, TV Show, Or Movie What Would It Be and Why?

I would want to be Goldie Hawn in Overboard. She loses her memory, starts all over, finds love and happiness and THEN finds out she is a gagillionaire!

Denver!

What Is One Special Thing About Where You Grew Up?

I love Denver, which is why I’ve never left. I recently bought a new home two blocks away from my elementary school and blocks away from my office. There is just something so special to me about living and working in the same neighborhood that shaped me as a child.

What Was You First Job?

Working for my Dad at his law office helping to clean up files, making copies, and shredding old files.

Hobbies:

Travel! I’m a happy camper if I can get out of town a few times a year. I love movies and jump at the chance to see blockbuster or art house movies.

Describe Yourself In 5 Words:

Outgoing, passionate, loyal, funny, and stylish.

Favorite Colorado Past-time:

Heading to the mountains to enjoy the crisp mountain air. I head to Vail whenever I get the chance – it’s been my favorite mountain town since I was young.

Favorite Place to Grab a Drink:

Hillstone. I love the aesthetic and when the band is there in the evening, it reminds me of being with my grandparents who I was very close with.

One Unusual Thing About You:

I love spoilers! When I start to read a book and get to know the characters, I read ahead to the last few pages. If the book has an interesting ending, I keep reading because I want to know how the characters get to the end point. If I don’t like the ending, or don’t connect with the characters I won’t finish the book. I know it’s crazy, but it’s a weird quirk.

In What Ways Are You Involved in Your Community?

Over the last few years, I’ve become really involved with the Denver Metro Association of Realtors serving as a Director of the Board and within the year moving into the role of a National Association of Realtors Director. I also worked with a small group of real estate agents researching and planning the roll-out for electronic lockboxes to better protect and serve the public as well as our clients. I am a committed member of the Realtor community and have found it incredibly fulfilling.

I also have a blog, https://lifestyledenver.com/ that covers all things Denver which has been a fantastic way to get to know my local community more.

Who Inspires You?

My parents inspire me all the time. My Mom had a long successful career and taught me the importance of having a career that you love. My Dad owns his own law firm and has been a great resource for advice and support.

What Is Your Proudest Accomplishment and Why?

My proudest accomplishment to date is my career. I’ve created an amazing base of clients who I am so grateful for! I’ve been in the business for 13 years and have loved every moment.

How Do You Define Success?

Success is living the life you have worked for and enjoy what you do on a day to day basis. I’m eternally thankful for my success.

What Career Path Would You Have Chosen If You Didn’t Become a Real Estate Broker?

If I wasn’t in real estate I think I would enjoy being an interior designer. I enjoy helping my clients stage their homes for sale and provide suggestions and recommendation. Additionally, I have loved putting my new home together piece by piece.

If You Could Master Any Skill That You Don’t Currently Have, What Would It Be and Why?

If only I could master the skill of mindreading, it would make life so much easier. But, if that’s not feasible then I would go with fly fishing. I’ve been turned onto the sport over the last few years and would love to know what I’m doing.

What Is the Most Adventurous Thing You’ve Ever Done?

A few years ago, I took on the challenge of saying yes to anything that scared me or that I would normally say “No” to. That took me on a series of adventures, but the most adventurous was rappelling off a 24-story building for the Cancer League of Colorado.

If You Could Have Dinner with Anyone, Who Would It Be and Why?

I’m going to break the rule here and say I would love to have dinner with Chelsea Handler, Mindy Kailing, Reese Witherspoon, and Victoria Beckham. Mostly because they are all hilarious women, who are also passionate and have created inspirational careers. They’re strong, independent women and I would like to say I see a bit of myself in them.

What Is Your Favorite Family Tradition?

Over the last few years my family has gone to Taos for Christmas. This has become my favorite tradition because it’s a great time of year to slow down, go on vacation, and connect with my family. I’m spoiled because my family all lives close by, but life gets busy and it’s nice to spend the week together. I’m especially looking forward to this year as it will be the first time my new puppies – Marcuccio & Emma will be joining us.

What’s the Best Concert You’ve Ever Been To? What Made It So Special?

Oh, I can’t choose just one! The first would be Dave Mathew’s Band in an acoustic show with Tim Reynolds at Macky Auditorium on the CU campus, the year before I started my freshman year as a Buff. The second was Ed Sheeran at Red Rocks the same day I got back from vacation in England.

If You Could Live in A Book, TV Show, Or Movie What Would It Be and Why?

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. I studied the book in college for a semester and read it in-depth three times during that time and absolutely love it. I also named one of my new puppies Emma as I also love that book by Ms. Austen.

What Career Path Would You Have Chosen If You Didn’t Become a Real Estate Broker?

Oil and gas was my career choice out of college until I realized it was merely a stepping stone and learning tool for my discovered career passion: real estate.

If You Could Master Any Skill That You Don’t Currently Have, What Would It Be and Why?

To master the cruelest of all temptresses – Golf! Right now, I can have an awesome real estate career and a lousy golf game, OR I can have a lousy real estate career and a very mediocre golf game.  I get to choose!

What Is the Most Adventurous Thing You’ve Ever Done?

White-water rafting for five days from Moab, UT into Lake Powell with my Little Brother of the Big Brothers organization. The Colorado River was at full flood stage. Later we learned there were fatalities that week in other groups. Several times I was convinced we were going to lose members of our group with these little boys, rafts flipping over, large drops over rocks, rapids, etc.  We were on the edge of a bad disaster with no way out but to keep going forward.

If You Could Have Dinner with Anyone, Who Would It Be and Why?

Jesus Christ, the most positive influential person in history with answers to my questions.

What Is Your Favorite Family Tradition?

Like many others, it is getting together as an extended family for the holidays. The fond memories of seeing the nieces and nephews, watching them grow and mature, hearing the laughter and conversations as everyone catches up with each other, smelling the tempting aromas of delicious meals. These memories cannot be replaced and are treasured forever.

What’s the Best Concert You’ve Ever Been To? What Made It So Special?

The Moody Blues. I always wanted to see one of my favorite rock bands. I took my daughter who smelled pot for the first time. I had to explain that one on the fly. The other concert would be seeing Bob Hope on one of his last tours before he passed away. He will be remembered and missed for so many great things.

Hometown:

Born in Indiana, however Colorado is my hometown!

What Is One Special Thing About the Place You Grew Up?

I moved back and forth from Colorado to Indiana when I was younger. In Indiana, I loved playing with lightning bugs. It was simple and fun. Regardless if I was in Colorado or Indiana, we were always outside playing in the dirt!

What Was You First Job?

Stacking firewood for my dad at his home in Conifer. I am pretty sure I worked all day for $1. However, I never complained and loved every bit of the earning power I had! My first W-2 position was when I was 14 and I worked the coffee counter at Mister Donut. Been working and in service ever since!

Hobbies:

Hiking, skiing, eating and drinking with friends and family, snuggling with big dogs, weekend getaways to the mountains, volunteering, collecting vintage champagne.

Describe Yourself In 5 Words:

Excitable, Happy, Witty, Passionate, Kind.

Favorite Colorado Past-time:

Attending Colorado Avalanche games.

Favorite Place to Grab a Drink:

Anywhere! Not a copout, but I love anything from dive bars, to swanky rooftops and casual patios – but I’m not a fan of any national chain. It’s about the company and conversation for me. I am a sucker for champagne and always appreciate a well-made French 75.

One Unusual Thing About You:

Monday is my favorite day of the week. I am sure the list is more exhaustive than this, but I love Mondays! I like the renewal and energy every new week brings. I would pick a Monday over a Friday any day of the week!

In What Ways Are You Involved in Your Community?

I am a serial volunteer. I am currently on the finance committee of both Community Shares of Colorado and Invest in Kids. I can also be seen getting my hands dirty and improving our very own Denver neighborhoods while volunteering for Extreme Community Makeover. Last, but not least, I spend time going door-to-door with the local chapter of the American Red Cross and install fire alarms in homes that may not have them, or they need repair. In addition, I am always doing my best to attend events, participate in silent auctions, and act as an ambassador to spread the word of many of our wonderful 501c3 organizations.

Who Inspires You?

So sappy – sorry not sorry. But, it is my husband. He is incredibly smart, witty, can manage a team better than I’ve ever seen anyone do, never backs away from a challenge, is always trying to self-improve, always says yes to an adventure, and has been graciously willing to put up with me for the last 18 years.

What Is Your Proudest Accomplishment and Why?

Choosing to change my career after being in the same profession for 20 years. It was bold, daring, and I chose my own destiny. I am thrilled to be in real estate!

How Do You Define Success?

I don’t want to sound too cliché. Success to me mirrors happiness. If I am happy, I am successful. We didn’t have a lot of money growing up, I moved a lot, and did not have a large circle of friends. However, my dad always told me that we have a lot of love and that is more than what a lot of people may have. I have always held onto that message and have been a fairly upbeat and positive person, which has immensely impacted my success and therefore defined it for me. Although, if you ask my inner circle, they say I have 2% days. I can be a bit over-the-top, boisterous, and peppy 98% of the time, but they say I have those 2% days that they want to steer clear from me!

What Career Path Would You Have Chosen If You Didn’t Become a Real Estate Broker?

A national news personality based out of New York City. I love wearing suits, being in the know, always being on, working long hours, attending all the big events in town, reporting, discovering, sharing…the list goes on!

If You Could Master Any Skill That You Don’t Currently Have, What Would It Be and Why?

I aspire to do anything athletic. I’ve never been athletic and I think it would be really neat to pole vault, do fencing, or parkour. Anything really extreme would be fun if I am dreaming big! However, I am not currently pursuing any of the above.

What Is the Most Adventurous Thing You’ve Ever Done?

The list is getting longer, as I love adventures! I slept in a tree house in the Amazon for 4 days with my husband. I was fairly certain after the first night I was going to have to charter a plane to get out of there. I stuck it out and it ended up being one of the most incredible things I’ve ever done.

If You Could Have Dinner with Anyone, Who Would It Be and Why?

Coco Chanel. She could rock a brand, build a legacy, overcome adversity and do it all in a little black dress with class. And, it’s just dinner!

What Is Your Favorite Family Tradition?

I have a really crazy, convoluted, and unconventional family. We have a lot of love and laughs, however we are so disjointed, our only tradition is that we don’t have one single tradition! I wouldn’t have it any other way. However, I look forward to the little traditions my husband and I create with our dogs!

I have served as a volunteer firefighter, I think I would have pursued that professionally if I wasn’t a broker.

If You Could Master Any Skill That You Don’t Currently Have, What Would It Be and Why?

I went on a solo trip to Peru to hike the Inca Trail to Macchu Picchu.

If You Could Have Dinner with Anyone, Who Would It Be and Why?

I would love to have a steak and whiskey dinner with Buffalo Bill. I am really into Colorado history and I think it would be fascinating to hear his stories over a long meal.

What Is Your Favorite Family Tradition?

Every Christmas Eve we sing carols in ‘The Cave’, which is this incredible red rock formation in our Morrison neighborhood. It’s shaped like a teepee and was used by Chief Colorow’s tribe of Ute Native Americans as a winter home. On Christmas Eve we have a big bonfire, eat cookies and hot chocolate, and sing together as a neighborhood. It’s a very special place and the perfect place to kick off the holiday.

What’s the Best Concert You’ve Ever Been To? What Made It So Special?

Harry Connick Jr at Red Rocks Amphitheatre –  it was a killer show, but I planned to propose to my now wife at this show. I couldn’t hold the secret so I ended up proposing to her at the Millenium Bridge a few weeks prior. But it was still an incredible concert and a really special time in my life.

If You Could Live in A Book, TV Show, Or Movie What Would It Be and Why?

I would be a gun slinger, chasing outlaws with Doc Holliday and Wyatt Earp in Tombstone.

If You Could Have Dinner with Anyone, Who Would It Be and Why?

JFK and Nixon at the same time. That era of American politics remains the most fascinating and both men were as shrewd as they were scandalous. The stories would be amazing.

What Is Your Favorite Holiday Tradition?

About 10 years ago, I started putting the Thanksgiving turkey in the smoker. Nobody was too confident I would pull it off, so I agreed to cook a second turkey in the oven in case things went awry. At the moment of truth, about 10 people were staring over my shoulder – after I pulled the smoked turkey off the heat – to watch me carve. When dinner was over, the smoked turkey was reduced to a meatless skeleton and hardly anyone touched the oven bird.

What’s the Best Concert You’ve Ever Been To? What Made It So Special?

My first concert was Rush in 1980. Enough said. But the best was the first Lollapalooza in 1991. Jane’s Addiction, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Nine Inch Nails, Rollins Band… epic.

If You Could Live in A Book, TV Show, Or Movie What Would It Be and Why?

LA Confidential by James Ellroy (the novel) or Hemingway’s Paris writings. Those were two periods of time in which it would have been fun to mix it up.

If You Could Have Any Superpower What Would It Be and Why?

Super speed, like the Flash. In the comics, besides him zipping around, everything around him would slow down. Besides fighting crime, I would totally use that power for monetary gain, specifically playing baseball. You could sit on curve balls all day and have a Hall of Fame career.
