In 1619, Dutch traders sold 20 Africans into slavery in Jamestown, Virginia, marking the beginning of African enslavement in North America. Although the 13th Amendment abolished slavery in 1865, the recent events of Charlottesville and George Floyd have proven (once again) that African Americans are still fighting for change in this country. But, how do we stand together in solidarity in support of the black community?
Being an ally doesn’t just mean protesting or taking to social media. Supporting Black-owned businesses is one thing you can do to show unity with the African American community. Black-owned businesses are a source of pride and power for African Americans. They’re an essential part of black history and culture, but they also present a unique opportunity to invest in the future of black people in this country.
With the current racial climate in America, we at Kentwood believe it’s critical to stand with the black community by supporting, endorsing, and partnering with their businesses. Here is a wonderful list of Black-owned companies in Denver worth considering, as put together by 303 Magazine.
August is National Black Business Month, and in support, we would like to invite you to Coffee at the Points on September 7th (details below).
COLORADO BLACK BUSINESS RECOGNITION
