Jim joined Van Schaack and Company, a local Denver residential real estate company, as a real estate salesman in December, 1970. In March, 1981, Jim formed a new real estate company, The Kentwood Company, in partnership with four other ex-Van Schaack salespeople. In 2007 the partners sold the company to two individuals who a few years later sold the company to Home Services of America, Inc., A Berkshire Hathaway Affiliate.

Jim's sales volume has been consistently high, and in both 1984 and 1986 he was recognized as the number one residential salesperson in the State of Colorado. In his 50+year residential sales career he has participated in over 2800 closings with a closed sales volume in excess of $1.3 Billion. His real estate designations include GRI, CRS, SRES, CIPS, and CDPE.
